*warning : this post isn’t really anything to do with music photography!*
One of the dPS forum members asked me today “What do YOU do to de-stress” and honestly, I couldn’t think of any good answers… What DO I do to de-stress? Unless you count live music and photography as a way for me to de-stress, then I guess “nothing” is the answer… How do you know when you’re stressed? Does it sneak up on you and mug you like a sucker in the street (Maybe while you’re photographing the back streets of Brixton?)
I usually look a lot like the photo above when I’m (I think) stressed.. And, what I look like when I’m not stressed is something like the photo below…
Yep – I turn into a woman with blonde hair… It’s true!
As a warning, I wanted to post some photos of what you could possibly look like if you were in the demonic clutches of stress… This is not a definitive collection of “stress images” for example, if you’re a woman, you’re not likely to look like one of the people in the following photo…
That said, you CAN avoid stress with one of these new “STRESS DEFENCE SYSTEMS”
How do you deal with stress? I’d like your comments please…. Hell, I may need them? I listen to music… Sometimes… And right at the moment, I’m listening to Si Connelly’s “Stars will Fall” (listen to it by clicking the play button on the little player)

Not very well. I try to get myself away from people if I can as I get snappy/grumpy. Music really does help.. but if allowed to rant or moan it goes away quickly
normal week stress is dealt with by a walk with my camera and a good chum.
BIG ASS stress (thats large amounts of stress not stress brought on by the size of my large backside)….which I seem to get more often than I used is dealt with by walking alone…..head down….music on……walk….don’t stop….walk….sometimes a guy just needs to be alone.

Great walk down memory lane – I remember when you first took a bunch of these! De-stress? Music usually… LOUD! And photography for me sometimes… and a good beer never hurt!

Sleep is the answer. If I get stressed past the point of no return, I literally shut down.
Otherwise, putting on happy music and jumping round the room, or (if I’m at work) hiding in a corner with a cuppa and a bar of chocolate.

I did a 365 day self portrait series a year or two back – Was a great experience.
Hmmm stress… something i am in the clutches off right now! To de stress i do the following:
1. Cry – yeah i feel like crap but it is cathartic and i am sort of cleansing myself… sort of…
2. Talk – I will talk the matter to death, i will play devils advocate, i will look at it from all angles. in other words i drive myself crazy and all those around me.
3. Music – Music is power. I am quite a sensualist anyway so i “feel” music as well as hear it. So when io am stressed i like the soothing tones of chill out bands like Sia, Zero 7, Lemon Jelly yaddah yaddah… or i go all out rock and play all my fave RAAAAAA songs and scream the place down ( usually my car on the way to work).
4. Cuddles – you can’t beat a cuddle.
5. Or a shag.

I get angry. Then I cry. Then I want to do something drastic like punch the wall or rip all the pages out of an important book or scream, but I never do. So I just sit. And wait. And sleep. Until it all goes away.
It never does, but whatever. The cycle repeats.
